Star Lake Trails

Habitat: Open Water, Mixed Coniferous Forest, Hemlock-Hardwood Forest and Conifer Bog. The trails are within the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest.

Best Birds:  Both trails border Star Lake offering easy viewing of Common Merganser, Hooded Merganser, Black Duck, Common Loon, and Spotted Sandpiper.  In the forest look for Barred Owl, Warbling Vireo, Winter Wren, Hermit Thrush, Magnolia Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Palm Warbler, Black-and-White Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager

Directions: 58 miles SE of Ironwood, MI/18 miles northwest from Eagle River. On State House Road parking is available for the Star Lake Nature Trail at 46.03275, -89.47709.

East Trail/Tramper’s Trail parking area is on Hook Road at 46.01836, -89.47278. Tramper’s Trail passes through the Plum Lake Hemlock Forest SNA.
