Haymeadow Creek State Natural Area

https://ebird.org/wi/hotspot/L1518761

Habitat: Mixed Coniferous Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest, Pine Plantation, Boreal Forest, Willow, Alder, Dogwood Swamp

Best Birds: The area where Haymeadow Creek crosses under Blong Road (FR 2205) is an especially good spot for viewing species at/below eye level as they forage in the dense tangle of willow and alder.  Adjacent to the creek, the mature spruce should be scanned for Spruce Grouse, Canada Jay and Boreal Chickadee.  Both kinglets Purple Finch, Black-throated Blue, Magnolia, and Cape May Warbler can be seen here as well.

Directions:  67 miles SE of Ironwood, MI/21 miles north of Eagle River. From County E turn south on Blong Road and continue 1.2 miles (46.10969, -89.17276). The site lies north and southeast of the road. The Haymeadow Creek crossing is southwest another 0.3 miles, (46.10164, -89.17963).

There are several forest roads both east and west of Blong Road that should also be explored as time allows.
