Habitats: 246 acres of Southern Hardwood Forest, Successional Oldfield, Willow, Alder, or Dogwood Swamp, and Cropland.
Best Birds: The large size of Rockport Park and surrounding, forested habitat are attractive to forest interior species like Acadian Flycatcher, White-eyed Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Hooded Warbler, and Cerulean Warbler. In winter and early spring, Winter Wren occur along the creeks in the park. Conifers near the northwestern edge of the park may produce Purple Finch, White-winged Crossbill, and Pine Siskin.
Directions: Rockport Park is on the western edge of Janesville, with multiple access points and extensive trails. There are two major sections of the park. The western portion is accessed from the west parking lot on Rockport Road (42.671748, -89.065060). The Peace Trail network in this section of the park covers more habitat diversity, including upland forest, riparian forest, and dogwood/willow wetlands. The eastern half of the park contains upland and riparian forest, a small creek, but no wetlands. There are two convenient access points for the eastern portions of the park. The first is the east parking lot at the swimming pool and playground area (42.668929, -89.056065), accessible from either Rockport Road to the north or S. Crosby Avenue to the east. The second is a small parking lot on Afton Road/Co. Rd. D (42.665181, -89.056362). The eastern and western halves of Rockport Park are connected by an east-west tree line and trail through agricultural fields and by a long trail around the southern edge of the park.
