Muskrat Lake and Wallin Road Pond

https://ebird.org/wi/hotspot/L1313330

Habitat: 60 acre Muskrat Lake has Open Water, Cropland, and Marsh. The Wallin Road pond is a 4-acre pond with Open Water, Cropland, and a limited view of Southern Hardwood Forest along the eastern edge of the pond.

Best Birds: These two permanent bodies of water are very good for migratory waterfowl and regularly generate records of Greater White-fronted Goose, and Cackling Goose, less commonly Snow Goose and Ross’s Goose, and a good diversity of ducks. They also provide excellent vantage points for shoreline habitats, producing species like Black-bellied Plover, Dunlin, and Short-billed Dowitcher. Look for gulls, including Franklin’s, and terns like Black and Forster’s.

Directions: Muskrat Lake (42.839485, -89.151636) is located 31 miles SE of madison/4 miles W of Edgerton and 8 miles NE of Evansville at the intersection of W. Stebbinsville Road and N. Wallin Road. The Wallin Road pond (42.832396, -89.151457) is 0.5 miles south from Muskrat Lake, on the east side of the road. Both are on private property, so birding is limited to roadside vantage points.
