Kinnickinnic Land Trust Community Forest

The Community Forest (KRLT), Pierce County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitat: Northern Hardwood Forest, Bottomland Hardwoods, Open Water, 

Best Birds: Red-shouldered Hawk, Bald Eagle, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Pileated Woodpecker, Acadian Flycatcher, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Wood Thrush, Cedar Waxwing, Blue-winged Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager.

Directions: About 3 miles southwest of River Falls. The Community Forest can be accessed via the Kinnickinnic River Trail in the city of River Falls. Trailheads for the southern section of the trail, providing the nearest access point to the Community Forest are across the street from 716 River Ridge Rd (44.84672, -92.63961) and south of 1371 River Ridge Road (44.84336, -92.64094). Follow these trails west and south along the river to reach the forest. An alternative entry to the Community Forest is on County Hwy FF about 1 mile west of Hwy 35/29 where there is a parking lot on the north side of the road 0.2 miles west of 1015th St (44.83369, -92.64998). Walk the treeline 0.5 miles north of County FF to reach the south boundary of the Community Forest.

Site Address and Additional Information:

Forty Acres of old growth hardwood forest along the limestone cliffs of the Kinnickinnic River gorge.  The Rocky Branch Creek, a tributary of the Kinnickinnic River flows through the east side of the property.
