Oconto Harbor

https://ebird.org/hotspot/L914486

Habitat: Open Water.

Best birds: The Oconto Harbor is a very enjoyable place to bird due to a drivable causeway that extends ½ mile east into Green Bay. During spring and fall migration, large numbers of diving ducks and mergansers stage here, and grebes, loons, and scoters can also be found. The rocks bordering the road and the small jetty about halfway down the causeway are good for shorebirds and gulls, including Whimbrel and Ruddy Turnstone. Shorebirds can also be found along the shore when water levels are low, and dabbling ducks gather on both sides near the beginning of the causeway. The causeway itself is good for Snow Bunting, Lapland Longspur, and occasionally shorebirds. The breakwall that parallels the causeway to the south of the channel is one of the best places in the state to view Snowy Owl in late fall before the Bay freezes.

Directions: 35 miles NNE of Green Bay. Take County Road Y east out of the city of Oconto, paralleling the Oconto River, to Harbor Road. Turn east on Harbor Road and continue until it ends at the Bay.
