West Camp 1 Road

Habitat:  Hemlock-Hardwood Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest. The area was logged about 10 years ago. There are large trees with thick understory.

Best Birds: Broad-winged Hawk, Blue-headed Vireo, Common Raven, Wood Thrush, Black-throated Blue, Chestnut-sided, Hooded and Mourning Warbler.  In the past and continuing now, Black-throated Blue and Hooded Warbler have been found in this area and others with large trees and thick understory, after being logged.  

Directions: 57 miles from Green Bay. From the junction of Highways 47 and 55 in Keshena go northwest on Highway 47 for 7 miles to the Shawano/Menominee County line. Turn west on Camp 1 Road and go 3 miles. The last several hundred yards will be uphill to the top of a hill. Park on the shoulder of the road. Access is limited to birding from the roadside within the public right-of-way 15 feet from the shoulder.

The Stockbridge-Munsee Reservation is on the south side of the road in Shawano County and the Menominee Reservation is on the north side of the road. Do not enter the forest. Permission is required from the Stockbridge-Munsee or Menominee Tribe to enter lands except within the 15 foot right-of-way on each side of public roads.
