Habitat: Mixed Coniferous Forest, Hemlock-Hardwood Forest.

Best Birds: From the pull-off one can see or hear Bald Eagle, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Common Raven, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, Hermit Thrush, Purple Finch, Red Crossbill, Pine Siskin, Blackburnian, Black-throated Green, Northern Parula, Black-and-White Warbler, White-throated Sparrow, Evening Grosbeak, and Scarlet Tanager. Finches are more common in Winter.  Continuing north along highway 55 for 17 miles to the Langlade County line there are additional pull-offs that have excellent habitat for northern resident birds. Several of these pull-offs are close to the Wolf River. 

Directions: 45 miles northwest of Green Bay. From the Highway 47/55 junction on the west side of Keshena, go north 2.2 miles on Highway 55 to the Spirit Rock State Historical Marker and drive into the pull-off on the west side of the road. Access is limited to birding from the parking lot or roadside within the public right-of-way 15 feet from the shoulder. Do not enter the forest. Permission is required from the Menominee Tribe to enter county lands except along public road right-of-ways.
