Red River Bridge

Habitat:  Mixed Coniferous Forest, Hemlock-HardwoodForest, Alder Swamp, Open Water. 

Best Birds: Common Merganser, Bald Eagle, Olive-sided FlycatcherCommon Raven, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Blackburnian, Black-throated Green warbler, Northern Waterthrush. In Winter: Red Crossbill, Pine Siskin, and Evening Grosbeak

Directions: 65 miles northwest of Green Bay. From Bowler in Shawano County, go east on Highway A to Moh He Con Nuck Road. Turn Left and go north about 5 miles to National Guard Road, Turn right and go about 1/4 mile to the bridge. Park on the shoulder of the road, near the intersection with Red River Road just west of the bridge. Access is limited to birding from the roadside within the public right-of-way 15 feet from the shoulder.

Site Address and Additional Information: 

The Red River flows south from the Menominee Reservation into the Stockbridge Reservation. This site is very scenic. 

National Guard Road, Bowler, WI

The Stockbridge-Munsee Reservation is on the south side of the road in Shawano County and the Menominee Reservation is on the north side of the road. Do not enter the forest. Permission is required from the Stockbridge-Munsee or Menominee Tribe to enter lands except within the 15 foot right-of-way on each side of public roads.
