Neopit Millpond

Habitat: Northern Hardwood Forest, Mixed Coniferous Forest, Alder Swamp, Open Water, and Mudflat when the water levels are low enough. 

Best Birds: Common Merganser, Bald Eagle, Osprey, Alder Flycatcher, Common Raven, Hermit Thrush, White-throated Sparrow, Northern and Louisiana Waterthrush, Black-throated Green and Blackburnian Warbler,. 

Directions: 58 miles northwest of Green Bay. From the junction of Highways 47 and 55 at Keshena, go northwest on Highway 47 for 12 miles to the village of Neopit. Continue another 2 miles on Highway 47 to the west end of the Neopit Millpond. Park on the shoulder of the road; there is a widening a few hundred feet west of the spillway opposite the intersection with Wheelock Road. Access is limited to birding from the roadside or within the public right-of-way 15 feet from the shoulder. Do not enter the forest. Permission is required from the Menominee Tribe to enter lands except within the 15 foot right-of-way on each side of public roads. 

Site Address and Additional Information:

The Neopit Millpond, which is on the west Branch of the Wolf River, is dammed at the far east end, where there is a saw mill.
