Habitat: Open Water, Marsh, Bottomland Forest.
Best Birds: Watch for waterfowl, Tundra Swan, White Pelican, gulls, and herons in the Mississippi. Look for shorebirds along the dike rock rip-rap and mud bars. Bald Eagle can be seen sitting on stumps and in live trees along the shoreline. From the railroad overpass to the boat landing look for Sedge Wren and Prothonotary Warbler. Purple Martin sometimes nest in dead trees on the south side of the road.
Directions: 5 miles from Dubuque, IA/3 miles south of Kieler, WI. Go west on Eagle Point Road at exit 3 off U.S. Highway 151. The boat landing and a parking area is at the end of the roadway before you get to the dam, 42.541609, -90.635936. This covers the southern portion of the Open Water of Pool 11. To see another view of the pool area, after crossing the railroad overpass, go north on Bluff Road. In about one mile turn left into a housing area and go towards the river (42.559505, -90.640823).
