Snow Bottom SNA, Grant County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot
Habitat: Oak-Hickory Forest, Southern Hardwood Forest, Cropland, Non-native Grassland and Pasture, Open Water of the Blue River Watershed.
Best Birds: In the grasslands look for Wild Turkey, Horned Lark, Clay-colored Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, and Bobolink. Scan for Horned Lark and Dickcissel in the cropland. In the forests look for Pileated Woodpecker, Red-headed Woodpecker, andBlue-winged Warbler. Along the Blue River watch for Bank and Cliff Swallow, and Belted Kingfisher.
Directions: 67 miles W of Madison/Six miles north of Montfort. This site is a loop route with a stop at the SNA. A reference point to start the route is at the junction of County Road G and Shemak Road at the Castle Rock church (43.056712, -90.500433). The Bowers Road parking lot to the Snow Bottom State Natural Area is at 43.031512, -90.465799.
Site Address and Additional Information:
On this loop route follow Shemak Road, County Road G, Spring Valley Road, and Bower Road. The route is on public roadways through private property. There are adequate safe pull off areas along the route where visibility for a parked vehicle and roadside birding is available.
From the parking for the SNA there is access to the 240 acre portion of this multi-unit SNA. There are old field and woods roads into the area for birding.
