Habitat: Southern Hardwood Forest, Native and Restored Grassland, Marsh, Sedge Meadow, Willow Swamp, Open Water.

Best Birds: Marsh Haven Nature Center offers about 2-miles of hiking trails that wind through prairie, woodland, and wetland habitats. The Nature Center also has several birdhouses surrounding its buildings where Purple Martin can be easily viewed.

The Vander Woude Wetland Trail (0.7 miles) offers the opportunity to see wetland birds including Trumpeter Swan, ducks, Virginia Rail, Common Gallinule, Black-necked Stilt, Black and Forster’s Tern, American Bittern, Marsh Wren, Swamp Sparrow, and Yellow-headed Blackbird.

On the Walters Woodland Trail (0.5 miles) one may find Red-bellied Woodpecker, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Yellow-throated Vireo, Warbling Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, and Scarlet Tanager.

On the Prairie Trail (0.5 miles) look for Northern Harrier, Eastern Kingbird, Sedge Wren, Brown Thrasher, Clay-colored Sparrow, Field Sparrow, Eastern Meadowlark, Bobolink, and Orchard Oriole.

Directions: Directions: 59 miles northwest of Milwaukee. From I-41 take Hwy 49 west 12 miles to the center. Or from Highway 151 in the city of Waupun take Hwy 49 east 2.4 miles.

Hiking trails are open when the front gate is open - gates are locked at 4 pm on weekdays and 5 pm on weekends. The Wild Goose State Recreational Trail borders the west side of this property and provides the visiting birder/hiker with additional wildlife viewing.
