B pond/ Quilling's pond/Blakely Lake, Dunn County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot
Habitat: Open Water, Marsh, Agricultural.
Best birds: This “island” of wetland in an agricultural desert is Wisconsin’s “prairie pothole.” It typically supports Ruddy Duck, and a surprising diversity of other waterfowl, Double-crested Cormorant, Black and Forster’s Tern, herons, a variety of migrant shorebirds, swallows, Brewer’s Blackbird, and Yellow-headed Blackbird. Because of its location and size, it is a magnet for oddities.
In winter, this is a consistent place to find Snowy Owl.
Directions: 21 miles WNW of Eau Claire. Take the Hwy B exit from I-94. It can be viewed from Highway B on the west (44.89638, -91.85471), from a sandy drive on the north side, off 610th Street (44.90095, -91.84421) and from Highway E on the east.
