Lake Wisconsin Causeway - Whalen Grade

Lake Wisconsin--Causeway, Columbia County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot 

Habitat: Open Water and Marsh on Lake Wisconsin that was created when the Prairie du Sac power plant dam was constructed.

Best Birds: This site often opens up before any other spot on the lake. Excellent numbers and variety of geese, ducks, and gulls can be found here before and after ice out.including Greater White-fronted Goose, Northern Shoveler, Gadwall, Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Canvasback, Redhead, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser, Common Merganser, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, gulls, terns, Common Loon, American White Pelican, Pied-billed Grebe, Horned Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant, and Bald Eagle.  The best times to visit are from March - April and October - November.

Directions: 30 miles NNW of Madison. From the intersection of County V and County CS 2.8 miles west of I-94, head north on County V for 0.4 miles. Park on the west side of the causeway, (43.39663, -89.52166).
