Habitat: Non-Native Grassland and Pasture, Willow, Alder or Dogwood Swamp.

Best Birds: This property is managed primarily for Greater Prairie-Chicken and is home to the second largest population of this species in Wisconsin. While the chickens are seldom seen, the area is home to many other grassland/ shrub-carr dependent species including Sora, Sandhill Crane, Northern Harrier, Willow Flycatcher, Sedge Wren, Clay-colored and Henslow’s Sparrow, Eastern Meadowlark, and Bobolink.

Directions: 20 miles west of Stevens Point. A good starting point is two larger parcels located about three to four miles northeast of the small town of Vesper on Tenpas Road (44.511662-89.923562) and Lundberg Road (44.519228, -89.905334).  Adventurous folks can walk the property (no trails) but roadside birding is equally productive. Additional scattered parcels are located in the immediate area and in neighboring western Portage County.
