Cranberry Road

Cranberry Rd. (Wood Co.), Wood County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitat: Northern Hardwood Forest, Conifer Bog, Sedge Meadow, Open Water.

Best Birds: The Tamarack bog south of the intersection with Ball Road is an interesting habitat  more typically found in northern Wisconsin. Sedge Wren is found in the more open areas. Northern Harrier hunt here as well. Palm Warbler has been found in summer.

The road bisects several cranberry farm flowages which should be checked for water birds including Trumpeter Swan, Common Loon, and Double-crested Cormorant.   

The forested southernmost section of road provides habitat for species such as Yellow-throated Vireo, Veery, Eastern Towhee, Chestnut-sided and Pine Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager. Red-shouldered Hawk is regular.

Directions: Cranberry Road is located 50 miles SW of Stevens Point/10 miles west of Babcock. It straddles the border between Wood County on the east side and Jackson County on the west side. The best area is the four-mile section from Ball Road (44.30969, -90.31757) south to the Juneau County line (44.24288, -90.31262).
