Dexter County Park (Lake Dexter)

Habitat: Mixed Coniferous Forest, Open Water.

Best Birds: Dexter Lake provides foraging habitat for Double-crested Cormorant, Osprey, Bald Eagle, and Belted Kingfisher.  

Several miles of walking trails pass through mature mixed coniferous forest and shrubby logged areas. Representative species in these habitats include Ruffed Grouse, Black-billed Cuckoo, Broad-winged HawkBarred Owl, Pileated Woodpecker, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Blue-winged, Golden-winged and Pine Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager.  Red-shouldered Hawk is always a possibility.   

Directions: Main entrance is located 36 miles SW of Stevens Point/6 miles south of Pittsville on State Hwy 54 (44.378873,-90.125980). Park in one of the three lots before reaching the campground. The walking trail along the lakeshore can be accessed from each of these lots. The park is open from April 30 to October 31.
