Mecan Springs State Natural Area

Habitat:  230 acres with Open Water, Oak-Hickory Forest, Marsh, and Native and Restored Grassland.

Best Birds:  Bald Eagle, Pileated Woodpecker, Barred Owl, Great Horned Owl, and Scarlet Tanager can be found in the wooded areas. The grasslands are home to Eastern Kingbird, Grasshopper and Field Sparrow, Bobolink, and Eastern Meadowlark. Warblers include Black-and-White and Blue-winged.

Directions: Approximately 40 miles south of Stevens Point. On Chicago Road there is an access lane and parking area on the left side of the road. The natural area lies west of the parking area, 44.056481, -89.468938. Or park at 6th Lane and Chicago Road, 44.058266, -89.485575, for access to the Ice Age Trail.
