Tomorrow River State Trail (Waupaca Co.), Waupaca County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot
Habitat: Wet Prairie Fen, Tamarac Bog and Oak-Hickory Forest.
Best Birds The five-mile stretch between Ogdensburg and Scandinavia offers a scenic hike or bike ride with access to American Bittern, Osprey, Veery, and Swamp Sparrow. The wooded areas just east of Blueberry Road is reliable for Warbling and Yellow-throated Vireo, and Blue-winged Warbler.
At the Ogdensburg Dam, the trail embankment has enough height to give a good view into the trees for Yellow-throated Vireo, Wood Thrush, or Scarlet Tanager. Engelbretsen Creek flows into the Ogdensburg Pond where there is a landing to put in a kayak to explore upstream. The Flowage has Hooded Merganser, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Pied-billed Grebe, Sora, Bald Eagle, Barred Owl, Cliff and Rough-winged Swallow, and Swamp Sparrow.
Directions: From Waupaca, take Hwy E north through Ogdensburg. Just north of the crossing of the former GB&W railway turn west on Spring Street. There is a nice parking lot there at the Ogdensburg Dam (44.45409, -89.03267) for either hiking or cycling the Trail, or for Kayaking up the Flowage. The embankment is too steep to climb with a bike, so return to the railway you crossed on Hwy E and pick up the trail heading west.
There is also a trail head along Hwy 49 in Scandinavia.
