Floral Hill Cemetery, Waupaca County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot
Habitat: Pine Plantation, Successional Oldfield.
Best Birds: Cooper’s Hawk, Barred Owl, Yellow-throated Vireo, Wood Thrush, and Mourning Warbler are predictable regulars. The gravel pit on the east side of the cemetery is the only place in Waupaca County where Bank Swallow are still reported nesting. This is a very good woods for nesting Wood Thrush and Mourning Warbler.
Directions: 21 miles NW of Appleton. This property is owned by the city of New London. There are no signs, trails nor any reference to this area behind the Cemetery and the City Brush Depot. Drive Beckert Road west from Hwy 45 for about a half mile looking for the Cemetery entrance on the south. Drive straight south through the Cemetery and park where traffic is not impeded. Walk through the brush depot southward into the pinery. Follow a sometimes- mowed path south to where the path turns east. Continue to bushwhack east and you will come to a gravel pit. Return to the path and finish the loop around. Note: If the Brush Depot gate is closed, it is possible to walk to the right and find an unofficial entrance looping around the fence.
