Kettle Moraine State Forest - Lapham Peak

Kettle Moraine SF--Lapham Peak Unit (general), Waukesha County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitat: Oak-Hickory Forest, Pine Plantation, Native & Restored Grassland, Oak Savanna, Marsh, Open Water.

Best Birds: Hooded Merganser, Wild Turkey, Wilson’s Snipe, Cooper’s Hawk, Broad-winged Hawk, Great-horned Owl, Barred Owl, Eastern Screech Owl, Acadian, Willow, and Alder Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Tufted Titmouse, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Brown ThrasherWood Thrush,  Swamp, Field, and Clay-colored Sparrow, Pine Warbler, Hooded Warbler, Bobolink, Eastern Meadowlark, Dickcissel, and Scarlet Tanager

In winter look for Golden-crowned Kinglet and Northern Shrike

Directions: 25 miles west of Milwaukee and south of Delafield. From I-94 exit at County Hwy C and go south about 0.9 mile to the park entrance, (43.04218, -88.40305).  There are over 25 miles of multi-use trails. The prairie and oak savanna area is primarily west of County C and accessed via the Ice Age Trail or the Prairie Path. Ponds and marsh areas are flanking C and best seen from the IAT.  Forested areas dominate the park to the east of C and are traversed by the IAT and other trails.  A central parking lot is on the east side of C, past the park office take a right to the parking lot, (43.04062, -88.40300).
