Namekagon River—County K Landing to Whispering Pines Landing

Habitat: Northern Hardwood Forest, Marsh, Open Water, Pine Plantation, Young Conifers, Non-Native Grassland.

Best Birds: Great Crested Flycatcher, Veery, Cedar Waxwing, Chestnut-sided Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager. In the adjacent hardwood forests listen for Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Black-billed Cuckoo, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Eastern Wood-Pewee, vireos, Veery, Hermit Thrush, Wood Thrush, Least Flycatcher, White-throated Sparrow, and Canada Warbler. Drift along the larger bottomland alder thickets and look for Alder Flycatcher, Golden-winged Warbler, and Mourning Warbler. Listen for Pine Warbler in White or Red pines that often line the shore.

Directions: 64 miles SSE of Superior/4 miles NW of Trego on County Highway K. Park at the boat landings. Access is limited to small boats (kayak, canoe) or on foot at the landings at either end of this stretch of river.
