Beulah Bog State Natural Area

Habitat: Conifer Bog, Open Water, Oak-Hickory Forest, Oak Savanna.

Best Birds: Walk east .4 miles on the main trail passing through oak woodlands and restored oak savanna.  The boardwalk into the bog is sometimes flooded, but when dry, is worth the short walk for various ducks, Sandhill Crane, and Green Heron. Summer residents include Eastern Kingbird, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, warblers such as Blue-winged and Hooded, and Scarlet Tanager. An additional spur trail (not far from the parking lot) heads south off the main trail, ending at Austin Road.

Directions: 27 miles SW of Milwaukee/4 miles north of East Troy. 0.8 miles south of Highway J on Stringers Bridge Road to small parking area on east side of road (42.818762, -88.414205).

Beulah Bog SNA contains an undisturbed quaking bog which features a regionally rare northern plant community that includes Pitcher Plant, Sundew, Wild Calla, Sphagnum Moss, Cotton Grass and large stands of Tamarack.
