Wildcat Mountain State Park

Habitat: 3,600 acres of Mixed Coniferous Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest, Bottomland Hardwood Forest, Pine Plantation, Successional Oldfield, Marsh, Willow/Alder/Dogwood Swamp, and Open Water.

Best Birds: The Hemlock Trail ascends through bottomland, hardwood, and mixed coniferous forest and provides habitat for Pileated Woodpecker, Acadian Flycatcher, Wood Thrush, Louisiana Waterthrush, and Scarlet Tanager.  The Ice Cave Trail, which is shorter and more level, has many of the same species plus possible Yellow-billed and Black-billed Cuckoo

Directions: 40 miles ESE of LaCrosse. The main entrance is about 2 miles SE of Ontario on State Highway 33 (43.697162, - 90.573699). The Hemlock trailhead is at the canoe landing (43.690712, - 90.581142). The Ice Cave trailhead is at (43.688363, -90.568819).
