Ten Mile Creek

Habitat: Oak Savannah, Native and non-native Grassland, Marsh, Sedge Meadow, Willow and Dogwood Swamp.

Best Birds: in summer and late spring this is a great area to see Willow Flycatcher, Alder Flycatcher, Bobolink, and Orchard Oriole. During migration and the summer nesting season, the variety of sparrows is impressive, including Harris’, Henslow's, Clay-Colored, Lincoln’s, LeConte’s and Swamp. The marshes hold American Bittern, and a large number of Great Egret and Sandhill Crane. Common Raven also nest in the area. During migration, large numbers of vireos and warblers pass through the area.

Directions: 15 miles NE of Hudson. From Hwy 65 south of New Richmond, take 140th west to 120th St then right onto 140th Ave again. Between 120th St at the east end (45.06233, -92.55784) and County Road A in the west (45.06532, -92.60006) this road will travel through several waterfowl production and wildlife areas. Scan and listen all along.

 The Ten Mile Creek area encompasses a variety of habitats. There is active management for Oak Savannah and Prairie Grassland habitats underway. There are also several nice Marsh and Sedge habitats, as well as early successional growth of willow and dogwood. As you travel along this creek, you will pass through all of these habitat types.
