Sheboygan Indian Mound Park, Sheboygan County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot
Habitat: Mixed Coniferous Forest, Bottomland Hardwoods
Best Birds: This small 15 acre city park is rich in birdlife. The upland forest just west and south of the parking lot is attractive to Broad-winged and Red-shouldered Hawk, Pileated and Red-headed Woodpecker, Barred Owl, vireos; thrushes; Tufted Titmouse, and Scarlet Tanager. The non-native Great Tit breeds here. The residences on the north border of the park usually host feeders, and Red Crossbill and Purple Finch have been seen there in winter.
Follow the short trail west and downhill to the hardwood swamp and creek. During migration watch for Hooded Merganser, American Woodcock, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Winter Wren, Lincoln’s Sparrow, Mourning, Hooded, Black-throated Blue, Blue-winged, and Canada Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, and Northern Parula.
Directions: 57 miles north of Milwaukee in the city of Sheboygan. From I-43, take Exit #120 (Cty Tk V). Access to the park is from a small parking lot south of the intersection of Panther Avenue and South 9th Street (43.697342, -87.717220)
