Grasshopper Hill Preserve

Grasshopper Hill, Sheboygan County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

 

Habitat: Southern Hardwood Forest, Southern Dry Mesic Forest, and Dry Prairie. 

Best Birds: Wild Turkey, Sandhill Crane, Great Egret, Belted Kingfisher, Osprey, Red-tailed Hawk, Bald Eagle, Pileated Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Hermit Thrush, Cedar Waxwing, and Pine Siskin.

Directions: 46 miles SE of Applton. From Highway 67, just south of Elkhart Lake, turn southwest on County Trunk A (Hickory Ln.), past Quit Qui Oc Golf Course.  Continue on A for about ¾ mile, following A (Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive) to the west until it intersects with Shoreland Rd. Follow Shoreland Rd. north, bearing right as it becomes E. Shoreland Rd.  On the right, a metal gate and a Glacial Lakes Conservancy sign mark the beginning of the walking trail for Grasshopper Hill. Parking is very limited and respect for nearby residents and properties is essential.

A unique 25-acre property of the Glacial Lakes Conservancy between Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin and the Northern unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest contains diverse habitats as well as a glacial kame. The property is a vital part of the Elkhart Lake and northeastern Wisconsin watershed.
