Habitat: Open Water, Marsh, Northern Hardwood Forest.
Best Birds: Trumpeter Swan, Hooded Merganser, Pied-billed Grebe, and Swamp Sparrow are among the species nesting. Osprey, Bald Eagle, herons, and Belted Kingfisher forage here.
Despite it’s small size and unassuming appearance, a variety of uncommon species have been seen here, including Red-necked Grebe and Great Egret.
Directions: 46 miles SW of Ashland/12 miles northeast of Hayward. The flowage may be scanned with binocs or a scope from the boat landing, 46.14991, -91.34497 or better, up close by canoe or kayak.
