Namekagon River- Larsen Landing

Habitat:  Mixed Coniferous Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest, Open Water.

Best Birds: The most enjoyable way to bird this area is by canoeing or kayaking the river. Birding from the landing and the road can also be productive. Among the many species to be found here are Hooded and Common Merganser, Black-billed Cuckoo, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Pileated Woodpecker, Great Crested Flycatcher, Blue-headed Vireo, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Winter Wren, Veery, Hermit Thrush, White-throated Sparrow, Northern Waterthrush, Northern Parula, Magnolia, Blackburnian, Pine, Black-throated Green, and Canada Warbler.      

Directions: 50 miles SW of Ashland/9 miles north of Hayward. Larsen Landing is located on Larsen Road. Several other landings in the area provide alternate put-in locations.
