White Mound County Park

Habitat: Southern Hardwood Forest, Successional Oldfields, and Open Water.  White Mound County Park is an 1,100-acre park with a 104-acre lake.  The bluffs surrounding White Mound Lake are primarily Southern Hardwood Forest with scattered open areas of Restored Prairie and Successional Oldfields.  The Park also has several developed areas including campgrounds and picnic areas.

Best Birds: The Park has several miles of hiking trails which take you into the wooded bluffs surrounding White Mound Lake.  Forest species found at the park include Barred Owl, Red-headed Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker, Tufted Titmouse, and Cerulean Warbler.  

The lake is also worth checking, especially during migration, when it hosts a variety of waterfowl.  Species such as Tundra Swan, Greater Scaup, Ruddy Duck, and Horned Grebe have been observed on the lake.

Directions: 17 miles north of Spring Green on WI-23, then turn west onto CTH-GG to reach the park entrance.
