Mirror Lake State Park

Habitat: Mixed Coniferous Forest, Southern Hardwood Forest, Successional Oldfield, Open Water, and Marsh.  

Best Birds: Mirror Lake State Park is home to several nesting species that are typically found further north in the state, including Broad-winged Hawk, Common Raven, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Winter Wren, Pine Warbler, and Nashville Warbler.  

With the mixture of habitat types, typical southern species can also be found, like Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Red-shouldered Hawk, Tufted Titmouse, Louisiana Waterthrush, Blue-winged Warbler, and Orchard Oriole.

On the lake waterfowl can be found during migration including Trumpeter Swan.  The marsh on the west edge of the lake has potential for shorebirds and waders such as Great Egret.

Directions: 48 miles NW of madison/2 miles southwest of Lake Delton.  Take US-12 south 0.5 mile from I-90/94, then go west on Fern Dell Road 1.5 miles to the State Park.

Site Address & Additional Information: 

Mirror Lake State Park is 2,200 acres with a 139-acre lake.  A large section of the park is dry Oak forest with Mixed Coniferous Forest.  Other portions of the park consist of Southern Hardwood forest.  On the southwest end of the park are a few open areas of Successional Oldfield   The west edge of the lake is surrounded by marsh and wetlands.
