Best Birds: Typical nesting bird species that can be found in the forested areas along the hiking trails include Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Black-billed Cuckoo, Red-headed Woodpecker, Yellow-throated Vireo, Wood Thrush and Scarlet Tanager. Hiking the trails into the prairie and savannah will take you into habitat for nesting Orchard Oriole, Henslow’s Sparrow, Clay-colored Sparrow, Eastern Meadowlark, and Dickcissel.
Directions: 50 miles north of Madison and 2 miles southeast of the intersection of I90/94 and Hwy 12 on Shady Lane Rd.
