Habitat: Southern Hardwood Forest, Hardwood Swamp, Willow Swamp, and Hemlock Forest.  

Best Birds: Some of the typical forest birds that nest at this location are Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Black-billed Cuckoo, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Red-headed Woodpecker, Acadian Flycatcher, Yellow-throated Vireo, Winter Wren, Blue-winged Warbler, and Cerulean Warbler.  Along the Honey Creek Louisiana Waterthrush can also be found during the nesting season.

Visiting this location during spring and fall migration can be especially rewarding with large numbers of migrants, especially migrating warblers.  

In the winter months look for species like Purple Finch or Pine Siskin and watch overhead for a chance of a flyover Golden Eagle

Directions: 42 miles NW of Madison/18 miles southwest of Baraboo. From County PF go west on Skyview Road 0.5 mile to Alder Road.

Honey Creek State Natural Area is a 695-acre property comprised of steep slopes and upland ridges along the Honey Creek.  Much of the Habitat is Southern Hardwood Forest but there are also wet areas of Hardwood Swamp and Willow Swamp.  Along the Creek there are cooler shaded areas that support a Hemlock Forest on the cliffside.
