Pine River Trail--Twin Bluffs

Habitat: Cropland, Non-native Grassland and Pasture, Marsh, Bottomland Hardwoods, and Marsh. 

Best Birds: Willow Flycatcher along the shrub-lined path, Trumpeter Swan, Virginia Rail, Sandhill Crane, Red-headed Woodpecker, Sedge and Marsh Wren, Great Crested Flycatcher, and Brown Creeper.

Directions:  54 miles WNW of Madison/6 miles southeast of Richland Center. Take Highway 14 to Twin Bluffs Drive, then go west 0.5 mile to the Village of Twin Bluffs. The parking lot for the trailhead (43.27496, -90.31229) is in the village next to an implement dealer.  Other sections of the 14 mile trail from Richland Center to Lone Rock, are also worth exploring for birds. The southmost 5 miles from Gotham to Lone Rock are close to Hwy 14, with resulting traffic noise.

This one-mile portion of the 14 mile long Pine River Trail, a former rail corridor, winds SSE from Twin Bluffs to the curved wooden bridge over an oxbow.
