Wadewitz Nature Camp

Habitat: 168 acres of Oak-Hickory Forest, Non-native Grassland, and Restored Grassland, with a small area of planted conifers.

Best Birds: Listen for Pileated Woodpecker in the forest. Hooded Warbler are possible breeders in the hardwoods. Listen for Blue-Winged Warbler in shrubby West-Central edge of the park.

Henslow’s Sparrow are present well into the breeding season. Yellow-Billed Cuckoo and Wood Thrush are summer residents in the forest.

Directions: 30 miles SW of Milwaukee/1 mile SW of Waterford.  A gravel driveway on Buena Park Road leads to a large parking lot at 42.75003, -88.23053.

Wadewitz has well maintained hiking trails in the grassland and woodland.  See the wooden trail map in the lot; the interconnected trails can be a bit confusing, but all start and end at the lot.
