Habitat: This 8,700-acre state wildlife area contains diverse habitats including Marsh, Open Water, Bracken Fern Grassland, Tamarack/Black Spruce Bog, Upland Aspen and Northern Hardwood Forest. Occasional prescribed burns are done to increase early successional habitat.
Best Birds: Various species of waterfowl, especially during migration, Wild Turkey, Ruffed Grouse, Sharp-tailed Grouse, American Woodcock, Sandhill Crane, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Barred and Great Horned Owl, and various species of woodpeckers, and nuthatches. Many species of passerines can be seen including Black-billed Cuckoo, Alder Flycatcher, Sedge Wren, Swamp, Lincoln, and Song Sparrow, Golden-winged, Mourning, Palm, and Nashville Warbler.
Northern Shrike and Rough-legged Hawk possible in winter.
Directions: 96 miles NE of Eau Claire. Go 16 miles west of Phillips on County Road W then 2 miles north on Price Lakes Road. If coming from Fifield go 10 miles west on Highway 70, then 3.5 miles south on Price Lakes Road. Look for one of the several parking areas and a service road leading into the wildlife refuge along the east side of Price Lakes Road.
