Habitat: Mixed Coniferous Forest and Open Water.
Best Birds: While the best way to explore this area is by kayak, the small county park can be a productive stop. Starting at the boat landing, scan the lake for waterfowl and Common Loon. Broad-winged Hawk can also be seen overhead. Search the tall pines and diffuse hardwoods for woodpeckers, Great Crested Flycatcher, vireos, thrushes, and warblers.
Directions: 15 miles E of Stevens Point/7 miles north of Amherst, Sunset and Minister Lakes can be reached by taking County A north of highway 161 and then County MM. Turn north on Sunset Lake Rd until a boat landing and parking area appears on the west side of the road. (44.5442985, -89.2726443)
