Habitat: Mixed Coniferous, Shrub Thicket, Open Water.
Best Birds: The various evergreens and mixed hardwoods within Koziczkowski Park can produce Great Crested Flycatcher, vireos, Red-breasted Nuthatch, thrushes, and warblers. Scan McDill Pond from the small overlook area for ducks, grebes, loons, gulls, and terns. The shrub thickets and hardwoods north of the overlook can yield vireos, thrushes, and warblers.
Following the trail north will lead one into Erickson Natural Area. The hardwoods in the area attract flycatchers, vireos, thrushes, sparrows, and warblers. Check the nesting platform for Osprey. Scan McDill Pond for geese, ducks, grebes, and loons.
The north end of McDill Pond can be scanned for waterfowl, grebes, loons, gulls, and terns from the Patch St bridge. Heading further west on Patch St, a parking lot for the disc golf course is on the south side of the road. Walking down to the shore to Comb’s Point is another good spot to scan.
Directions: Located on the south side of Stevens Point. Turning north onto Minnesota Ave off of Post Rd the summer access can be reached by turning east into the park just north of Vivian’s Ln. The winter access is located off of Della St, turn south at Soo Marie Ave and continue south into the park.
The Patch St bridge is located on the south side of Stevens Point on McDill Pond. A small pullout is located on the north side of the road after crossing the bridge from the east. Continuing east just over the hill, a parking area accesses Comb’s Point on the south side of the road (44.5117229, -89.5454551).
