Sand Creek State Fishery Area

Habitat: Northern Hardwood Forest, Young Conifers, Native Prairie, Alder Swamp, Marsh.

Best Birds: Multiple easy hiking trails on old logging roads through even-aged stands of aspen, mixed ages of hardwood forests, and mature pine where Ruffed Grouse, Broad-winged Hawk, Barred Owl, Common Raven, Hermit and Wood Thrush, and Blackburnian Warbler nest. Three vireo species include Warbling, Red-eyed, and Yellow-throated. Blue-winged and Golden-winged Warbler can be found in regrowth after logging. 

Wet areas and open water are home to geese, rails, Alder Flycatcher, Sedge Wren, Swamp Sparrow, and warblers. Check out the farms, ponds and agricultural areas on 340th Ave and 330th Ave leading to the parking areas for common ducks and familiar nesting swallows and sparrows. 

The 340th Ave access provides easy trails through a small restored prairie and loops through rich woodlands.

Directions: 80 miles NE of Hudson/Seven miles ENE of Frederic. Take 330th Ave off County Hwy E.
