Habitat: 1,192 acres of Northern Hardwood Forest, Restored Grassland, Non-Native Grassland, Oak Savanna, Willow and Alder Swamps, Marsh, Open Water, Cropland.

Best Birds: Search the flowage by kayak, canoe, or scan from landings for Trumpeter Swan, ducks, Virginia Rail, Sora, Pied-billed Grebe, Black Tern, herons, Osprey, Cooper’s Hawk, Bald Eagle, Sandhill Crane, Willow and Alder Flycatcher, swallows, Sedge and Marsh Wren, and Yellow-headed Blackbird. Explore the woodlands for woodpeckers, flycatchers, vireos, sparrows, and warblers. Walk the dike on Joel Flowage and scan for waterfowl and raptors.

Directions: 72 miles NW of Eau Claire/2 miles west of Turtle Lake on US Hwy 8. Parking lot on 115th Ave. at 45.378094, -92.247087. Also, access from the north on 33rd St. at 45.388815, -92.219744.
