Habitat: Open water (Fox River), Urban, Bottomland Hardwoods, Southern Hardwood Forest.
Best Birds: The Fox River below the dam is best in the winter months. Proximity to the Outagamie County Landfill brings a good variety of gulls including Great Black-backed, Lesser Black-backed, Iceland and Glaucous. Overwintering waterfowl like Common Goldeneye and Common Merganser are found in large numbers on the open water, with occasional Long-tailed Duck and scoters. The Heritage Parkway Trail (identified on some maps as Island Park Trail) extends a mile eastward along the river from Island Park to Heesakker Park. Look for Bald Eagle, Osprey, Peregrine Falcon, Belted Kingfisher, and swallows along this riparian corridor. The wooded areas of Heesakker Park are good for Scarlet Tanager and a variety of woodland birds.
Directions: 21 miles SW of Green Bay. From the corner of Madison St (County N) and Main St in Little Chute head east 2 blocks on Main, then take Grand Avenue south 3 blocks, to a right on Mill Street, proceed down the hill to the parking area (44.2763895, -88.3169675).
