Lake Park

https://ebird.org/hotspot/L253234

Habitat:  Southern Hardwood Forest, Young Conifers, Open Water.

Best Birds: This beautiful park overlooking Lake Michigan has the highest species total of any eBird hotspot in Milwaukee County. It is a great spot to find migrating passerines and it is not unusual to observe 25 or more species of warblers on a morning in May. There is a small golf course within the park and the brushy edges of the course are great spots to check for migrating sparrows and thrushes. Mature woods and bordering ravines make for picturesque locations to view and photograph birds. In addition to being a good spot for migrants, the mature trees provide good nesting locations for Red-headed Woodpecker, Eastern Screech-owl, and Great-crested Flycatcher.  There are two well stocked feeding stations in the park that are good places to check for birds year round.  Much of the park can be birded from paved trails.  Dirt trails traverse the lower sections of the ravines and can be quite muddy in spring.

Directions: In Milwaukee three miles north of downtown. Lake Park can be reached by taking Hwy 32 north from downtown Milwaukee or from Lincoln Memorial Drive.
