Havenwoods State Forest

Habitat: Southern Hardwood Forest, Restored Grassland, Bottomland Hardwoods, Upland Shrub, and Open Water.

Best Birds:. The blue trail leads to pond wetland birds including Blue-winged Teal, Pied-billed Grebe, and Sora. The green trail passes through a prairie with the opportunity to see Wild Turkey, N. Rough-winged Swallow, Henslow’s, and Sparrow Eastern Meadowlark

The orange or purple trails provide the opportunity to see woodland birds such as Yellow-billed and Black-billed Cuckoo, American Woodcock, Cooper’s Hawk, Great Horned Owl (frequently near the kids garden), Willow Flycatcher, Tufted Titmouse, Brown Thrasher, Cedar Waxwing, and Eastern Towhee.  

Directions: Ten miles north-northwest of downtown Milwaukee. The entrance is located on N. Hopkins Street; go up the long driveway to the parking lot.

This 237acre urban forest is nestled in northern Milwaukee. The area has almost 8 miles of trails which wind through planted prairie, hardwood forest, and pond wetlands
