Best Birds: Check this wonderfully scenic location on the Menominee River for waterfowl including Ring-necked Duck and Hooded Merganser. Look for woodpeckers, flycatchers, vireos, and warblers along the river. Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher and Winter Wren have nested here. Both Red and White-winged Crossbill are present in irruptive years. Unusual warblers include Black-and-White, Northern Parula, and Magnolia.
Directions: 20 miles southeast of Iron Mountain MI. Follow US Highway 141 S to Kremlin Road, then to Pemene Dam Road. Cross the railroad tracks where you are then at the area entrance of the Menominee River State Recreation Area (Quiver Falls Unit) at 45.658900, -87.837844. Walk or drive Pemene Dam Road to the river where there is a Canoe Takeout, 45.65634, -87.823511.
