Bloch Oxbow State Natural Area

Bloch Oxbow SNA, Marinette County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitat:  Mixed Coniferous Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest, Native and Restored Grassland, Sedge Meadow, Open Water.  

Best Birds:  Forest species include Pileated & Red-headed Woodpecker, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Pine Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager.  In the grasslands look for Northern Harrier, Clay-colored Sparrow, and Vesper SparrowCommon Merganser, Common Goldeneye, Blue-winged Teal, Pied-billed Grebe, a large colony of Bank Swallow and a Great Blue Heron rookery can be found along the banks of the Peshtigo River.

Directions:  49 miles N of Green Bay. From the junction of U.S. 41 and Co. B in Peshtigo, go south on Co. B 1.3 miles, then south on Co. BB 2.8 miles to a parking area east side of the road.  

Site Address & Additional Information:

It protects one of the best remaining examples of northern dry-mesic forest – a type that was formerly widespread in northeastern Wisconsin. Bordering the Peshtigo River is a floodplain forest at the extreme northeastern edge of its range in Wisconsin.
