Habitat: Hemlock-Hardwood Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest, Mixed Coniferous Forest.
Best Birds: South of the river, and east of Highway Y, is the State Natural Area where nesting Black-throated Green Warbler are usually present. Up to 15 additional warbler species are possible or confirmed as nesting in the park. Some of these include; Ovenbird, Blackburnian Warbler, Mourning Warbler, and Northern Parula. Some other park specialties include; Broad-winged Hawk, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Yellow-throated Vireo, Winter Wren, Hermit Thrush, and Scarlet Tanager.
Along the river itself, watch for Belted Kingfisher or Great Blue Heron. A few Chimney Swifts can often be seen flying overhead, and on the river itself watch for Common Merganser.
Directions: located approximately 20 minutes northeast of Wausau, WI. Take State Highway 52 east of Wausau to County Highway Y (16 miles), turn south on Highway Y and go1.5 miles to the main entrance.

This very scenic park, with the shallow and fast flowing Eau Claire River passing through the heart of it, is rich with bird life, especially in summer. Hiking trails, including a section of the Ice Age Trail, are found throughout this mostly wooded park.
