Habitat: Marsh, Open Water, Beaches and Mudflats.
Best Birds: This stretch of the West Twin River is regularly used by ducks and geese, waders, and Belted Kingfisher. Osprey regularly hunt this stretch of the river, and often use the nesting platform near the Shoto Sportsman’s Club property. Depending upon water levels and exposed habitats, Sora and Wilson’s Snipe can be found in shallow water areas, and various migrating shorebirds can be found from spring through fall.
Directions: 30 miles SE of Green Bay. The dams are directly adjacent to Highway B in Shoto, (44.17596, -87.6508). Entrance to West Twin River Park from County Highway V, ½ mile east of County Highway B, 44.17464, -87.63598.
Address and Additional Information:
Two dams at Shoto on the West Twin River create an upstream impoundment fringed by emergent marsh. Between the dams and the West Twin River Park approximately ½ mile downstream, a series of rapids, islands, and emergent wetlands provide varied habitat depending upon seasonal water levels.
