Rahr Memorial School Forest, Manitowoc County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

 

Habitat:  Oak-Hickory Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest, Hardwood Swamp, Successional Oldfield.  

Best Birds: Pileated Woodpecker, Great Crested Flycatcher, Veery, and Northern Waterthrush are common in hardwood swamp areas.  An extensive boardwalk trail crossing the hardwood swamp provides easy access and good viewing opportunities.

Directions: 32 miles SE of Green Bay/ 6 miles east of Mishicot on County Highway V, then north on Sandy Bay Road to parking along road. The Ice Age Trail crosses County V at (44.237111, -87.518857).

Site Address & Additional Information:

300 acres extending from the Lake Michigan shore to about ¾ mile inland. Mostly oak forest on dune ridges near the shore, with extensive areas of Black Ash swamp along the Ice Age Trail section west of Sandy Bay Road.
