Habitat: Hemlock-Hardwood Forest, Swamp Forest, Pine Plantation, Alder Swamp, Open Water, Marsh.
Best Birds: A diversity of forest birds includes some warbler species found south of their normal range such as Yellow-rumped, Magnolia and Blackburnian. The more southern Hooded Warbler is also regularly found here. Due to its location and configuration jutting out into Lake Michigan, this entire area hosts large numbers of migratory birds that pass through during both spring and fall migration. All typical waterbird species of the area can be found on the open waters of Lake Michigan, and shorebirds, gulls and terns may be found along the sandy shoreline. Long-tailed Duck and Red-throated Loon winter offshore in this area, and the lodge area is one of the best places to see these species.
